Summer Leadership Experience Introduces Incoming Freshmen to Campus

GWU students

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C.鈥擳he 18 incoming freshmen who recently participated in the Summer Leadership Experience received a glimpse into what the fall semester will be like at 国产哟哟. Exercising social distancing and wearing face coverings in adherence to coronavirus safety protocols, the students learned various aspects of leadership, and were also introduced to campus life and the surrounding community.

The group of 18 incoming freshmen are introduced to the GWU campus.

The three-day event is coordinated by Micah T. Martin, director of the Center for Personal and Professional Development. Participants used Gallup鈥檚 Strengths Finder to determine their talents, passion, and purpose.

Cory Dragun, of Clover, S.C., said he learned how to begin the semester as a leader on campus. 鈥淚t鈥檚 been a wonderful time,鈥 Dragon observed. 鈥淚t鈥檚 been a great time getting to know each individual person that has been here.鈥

Lauren Trusty, of Greenville, S.C., commented that staying six feet apart and wearing a mask is different, but she appreciated being able to learn about the GWU campus and activities. 鈥淏eing an incoming freshman, it鈥檚 crazy and concerning,鈥 she offered. 鈥淵ou don鈥檛 know what to do with clubs or how to get around campus. I learned about our design and how we really develop, and how you can actually be a part of the campus.鈥

Janessa Johnson, of Rutherford County, N.C., used the experience to make new friends and become more familiar with the campus and community. 鈥淚t just really allowed me to be able to figure out the clubs and organizations that we have here,鈥 she affirmed. 鈥淚t was just a super awesome experience.鈥
